In this inaugural episode of Math Matters!, join your host Katherine Cheng, as she welcomes two titans in the equity world: Dr. Kristopher J. Childs, Chief Academic, Equity, and Social Justice Officer at Open Up Resources, and Jean-Claude Brizard, President and CEO of Digital Promise.
Math equity and digital equity are dominating some of the biggest conversations in education today. How will we close the achievement gap after the impacts of COVID-19? What about the digital divide, where some students can’t afford the internet or a device at home?
“It really colored my opinion as far as equity. It pushed me to think about the long game.”
- Jean-Claude Brizard
Dr. Childs has written articles, such as, “Good Mathematics Teaching is Not Telling, It Is Facilitating," and recently joined Open Up Resources as the Chief Academic, Equity, & Social Justice Officer to promote equitable, diverse, and inclusive curricula.
Jean-Claude Brizard brings his expertise from Senior Advisor and Deputy Director for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation across PK-16 education, and now is the President and CEO of Digital Promise, a global, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on accelerating innovation in education.
“Adults must be willing to alter traditional beliefs and practices in order to achieve equity.”
- Dr. Kristopher Childs
